Frequently Asked Questions.
For the curious, the cautious, and the just-starting-to-plan.
Traveling with a baby, or building a brand that supports those who do, raises a lot of questions. We’ve answered some of the most common ones here to help you feel informed, supported, and one step ahead.
What is Trimester Abroad?
Trimester Abroad is a global platform that supports families, especially pregnant moms and those with children under age 4, in traveling with confidence without sacrificing comfort. We curate destinations, partner with family-focused accommodations and services, and offer resources and guidance to relieve the stress of travel during early parenthood.
Who is Trimester Abroad for?
Trimester Abroad is for new and expecting parents who are overwhelmed by the thought of traveling while pregnant or with children under age 4. Why 4? Because most kids clubs at luxury hotels have 4 as the average age cut-off for free/supervised play. It is also the differentiation by the hospitality between infant and child, whereas infants stay (usually) for free, there is a child rate that gets factored in. We will, of course, include content and information that is relevant to parents of older children and solo travelers by default, but our main goal is to fill a very specific travel gap.
This is also the place to go if you’re a Travel Advisor looking to book a babymoon, first family vacation, or even multi-generational trip. We offer a Trimester Abroad certification for you so you can help us make traveling a breeze for new and expecting parents…even if they’re traveling with seasoned grandparents. We provide everything from live training sessions, to exclusive access to our DMC partners, service providers, list of recommended properties, VIP email templates, and more, giving you a foundational understanding of the needs of new and expecting parents and the experiences that are best suited for them without having to guess what it is they really want.
Can I work with you to plan and book my trip?
Yes and no. We are building our network of Trimester Abroad certified travel advisors (contact us on this page to ask us how), who we trust to truly understand the needs of pregnant guests, new parents, and their tiny co-pilots (because we trained them). We will only accept clients ourselves on a case by case basis as our focus is on creating resources and working with travel partners to improve guest experience on a broader level. If you truly think we are the best ones to book your trip and your focus is on the experience rather than a budget, please reach out with your needs here, and we will be in touch on whether or not this will be a good fit.
How do you choose the partners you work with and feature?
All partners are hand-picked, vetted, and road-tested by our team. We do not accept payment for placement offers. Any partnerships, sponsorships, or advertisements will be clearly labeled.
Why would I pay for a destination guide?
Our destination guides are comprehensive, well-researched, tested, and continuously updated. These are not AI-created internet-scraped guides, but rather the result of visiting, working, living and building local networks of young, working parents and hospitality industry professionals in each of these destinations to provide accurate guidance from multiple lenses. These are not elaborate marketing campaigns, rather verified experiences where we care more about reality than Instagram.
I have a travel/hospitality business and I am interested in serving new and expecting families. How can Trimester Abroad help me?
We are the experts in this segment. We have a global reach and it’s our job to stay up to date on destination news, industry trends, leading brands, and customer demands. Through our Mavin’s Landing consulting arm, we work with brands and businesses as strategy and advisory consultants, in which we can help you identify your gaps, propose solutions, and work with you to pilot, test, set up, and train your teams to implement new ideas and processes, from operations to sales and marketing.
How do your partnerships work?
We partner with select properties, brands, and services that align with our mission to support early parenthood travel. Whether you’re a boutique hotel, prenatal yoga studio, or baby gear rental company, we offer ways to collaborate through promotion, content creation, and consulting.
Visit our Partners page to learn more, or get in touch with us on this page to start a conversation.
What makes Trimester Abroad different from other family travel resources?
This is the only travel resource that focuses on the period between pregnancy and toddlerhood from an objective-not marketing lens. This isn’t a mommy blog. This is created on experience as the customer, travel advisor, and hospitality industry knowledge to be the glue that creates a truly seamless experience. We know not every destination is for everyone, and we will not paint it as such. We’re here to connect travelers to the experiences that are best suited for their unique needs, and to broaden their choices when it comes to where to stay and what to do.
Can I list my property or service on Trimester Abroad?
This is not a booking engine. If you’re interested in being considered for a featured in an article, our newsletter, or a destination guide, please reach out to us directly to discuss a partnership.
How can I stay updated on new destinations, services, or community events?
Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to hear about new guides, family-focused destinations, pop-up events, and more.
How do you choose the destinations you feature?
In our initial launch, we’re showcasing urban hubs that are currently leading in safety, happiness, health, wellness, sustainability and opportunity for women, parents and babies. We’re deliberately choosing locations that aren’t overrun by tourism, because an overcrowded experience is the last thing you want to deal with as a new parent.
There is currently a global shift in the way we work and live, stemming from more women coming into executive positions in the workforce, a focus on maternal and paternal mental health, alternative forms of early education, a willingness to rethink what work looks like (remote work, digital nomads), in which travel is no longer classified as business or leisure. Ideas like traveling as a family, using parental leave to travel, worldschooling, bringing your kid on worktrips and etc. are becoming more widely accepted, and with that you need to know where to go. Global travel hubs that are easy to get to and already have the infrastructure/culture in place to support these new ways of traveling are often the places innovating for this audience.
This does not mean that we will not showcase resort towns or more remote leisure travel destinations – we absolutely will. But we’re starting in the places you’re already going, and showing you how to bring your family with you.
